HRC Auction

Around April 2004 I was approached by Suzy Deffeyes with a question: would I help design a website for tracking silent auction items for the HRC Austin silent auction taking place in 2005. It seems past auction-item solicitation was tracked with pen and paper that could lead to some confusion. She theorized a web-based tracking system using a database backend would be ideal to track donor calls and donation items with live status.

I agreed not knowing how big of a project it would end up becoming - or rather knowing but not compensating for how busy my live would become between April 2004 and January 2005 when the website would be needed. The result of the November 2004 election was enough to motivate me to finish the site with gusto.

Thus roughly nine months later the Austin HRC Auction site was born. One major focus of the design was to make it both client and event agnostic, allowing the site to be used for other clients besides HRC Austin as well as for multiple events (2005 auction, 2006 auction, etc). The hope is for the new system to be such a success that other HRC locations will use the website for their auctions as well. Check back after March to see if it was a godsend or a disaster ;)
